INCLUDED ACTIVITIES

SPEAR THROWING COMPETITION AGAINST THE MASAI
Traditional spear throwing competitions are deeply rooted in Masai culture. They were not only important for Masai warriors to compete against each other, but also served as training for lion hunting. Nowadays, lions are protected and the Maasai no longer hunt them. Spear throwing competitions are now just a sporting event. Try your luck and compete against the best of the best!

NATURE WALK WITH THE MAASAI
Accompanied by a Maasai shaman, you will have the opportunity to explore the surrounding area. Meet the locals of Ngabobo, who will share their extensive knowledge of herbs and medicinal plants and introduce you to the Maasai culture, which has remained unchanged for centuries. In the immediate vicinity of the lodge, you will have the opportunity to pick these medicinal plants yourself and perhaps even make your own tea with them. It will be a very special tea time, both for you and for the Maasai.

DONKEY RIDE WITH THE MAASAI
The typical tourist attraction in Tanzania is a safari, on foot or by car. Horse riding excursions are offered as an alternative in many places. But how about something new? Why not try a donkey ride at sunrise? It is the best way to enjoy the tranquility of the savannah and the beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
With a bit of luck, you can even experience the early-morning hustle and bustle of the African savannah. The donkey ride is particularly recommended for families with children.
OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

MAASAI WOMEN'S WORKSHOP
Let the local Maasai women introduce you to their craft. In the shade of an acacia tree, the Maasai will teach you how to make your own jewellery. During a friendly conversation, you will also have the opportunity to learn about the women's lives.

VISIT THE MAASAI CHURCH IN MADEBE
The Maasai still worship their own gods in the traditional way. However, their beliefs have mixed with those of others, e.g. with elements of Christianity. Visiting a Maasai church is a unique experience. Join the Maasai for Sunday mass and then take a tour of the Madebe area. You will also see water holes, their only source of drinking water for centuries until Africa Amini Alama successfully built water pipes in the village.

VISIT A MAASAI BOMA
A Maasai family invites you to their boma! A boma consists of several houses made of natural materials, built in a circle to fence in livestock. Visiting a boma gives you the opportunity to see how the Maasai live. You can also talk to your hosts, who will explain their traditions and customs in detail.

MAASAI FESTIVAL
A great opportunity! The local Maasai will certainly be grateful. Preparations begin early in the morning with the purchase of a goat. Maasai men will roast the goat over the fire while the women prepare the side dishes. In the evening, your personal interpreter will give you the opportunity to chat with the Maasai. After dinner, the festival will continue into the early hours of the morning, as is traditional.

CLIMB THE HOLY MAASAI MOUNTAIN MUKURU
Between Momella and Ngabobo, on the northern side of Mount Meru, lies the small village of Mukuru. The pyramid-shaped hill at the foot of Mount Meru is the landmark of the area. This hill, Ol Doinyo Landaree, is still used by the Maasai for religious purposes. However, it is not a tourist destination, but we can still visit it from time to time. The bird life is abundant, giraffes feed on fine acacia leaves and zebras share the pasture with the locals' cattle. A place of peace and contemplation.

EXCURSION TO MUKURU AND THE MARKET IN NGARENANYUKI
An early start from the lodge is necessary to climb the summit of Mukuru before noon; it is about an hour and a half's hike. After a well-deserved picnic at the summit, with spectacular views, we descend via a shorter route. Bird lovers in particular will get their money's worth, as they can observe some very rare bird species such as the streaked racket-tailed bird, the flamingo-headed barbary, the Andean barbary or the peach-headed barbary. Around noon, you will reach the market in Ngare Nanyuki, which takes place every Friday. A wide selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, rice, corn and many other products are on offer. The colourful market stalls convey a rich picture of the scene.

DAY TRIP TO SINYA AND THE NATURE RESERVE IN THE WEST OF KILIMANJARO
On this full-day excursion, you will discover the Embosel ecosystem in northern Tanzania, near the border with Kenya. With a little luck, you may even have the opportunity to get up close and personal with elephants. At lunchtime, you will enjoy a picnic in the middle of the wilderness before visiting the market in Sinya at the end of the day, where you will find Maasai handicrafts as well as cosy little bars and cafés.

EXCURSIONS TO THE AFRICAN AMINI ALAMA PROJECTS IN MOMELLA
Spend a whole day in Momella, the centre of the Africa Amini Alama projects. In the morning, you will have the opportunity to visit a few of the families we support. Afterwards, we invite you to our primary school. After lunch, you can spend the day at one of our favourite projects, the KinderVilla, or explore the area along the river and the marshy land around Momella. If you are interested, you can also see our hives of non-stinging bees.

SPECIAL MASSAI DAY
Live like a Maasai - for a whole day in your life!
You have to get up early in the morning to dress like a Maasai. In one of the Maasai settlements near the lodge you will be shown how to milk goats and cows. After late brunch, the male guests are picked up to collect medicinal plants, butcher a goat, and prepare the goat for a fire. Female guests will search for firewood, repair bombas and learn about the challenges of Maasai life.
End the evening with a special goat fire festival and dancing. Throughout the day you will be accompanied by one of our Maasai guides, who will make you understand the deeper meaning of Maasai life - an experience you will never forget!
Optional: OVERNIGHT BOMA EXPERIENCE
End your special Maasai day with an authentic overnight experience. Sleep with the Maasai in their home. Enjoy a Maasai-style dinner and breakfast and be one of them for 24 hours!
